Safe-Zone? This Left4Dead now? :D As I said, I sometimes have that bug where I am literally trapped inside the elevator and can not leave without getting smacked by zombies and/or fisted by 049.

The elevator isnt a safezone, I have had both 049 and his zombie slaves walk into the elevator to abuse my body with slapping and strangling.
What fun is there in making sense?
Now, if you will excuse me i have some chaos to wreak.

The difference of occurrences here...
Sparks is slapped and abused.
Serimah is smacked and fisted.

I... I don't even...

This thread is getting kinkier by the minute.

I did witness 049 use a lift before, when I went into 049's area/got pushed out the map and landed on his containment room, I was standing on the wall watching the zombies circle beneath me, I heard a door open and saw 049 walking out the lift.
I'm not here as much right now, mention me on our Discord server if you need anything.

WARNING: wall of text inbound.

How do you know your character in game ISN'T a doctor? Maybe you were a doctor before being incarcerated. You were convicted of performing faulty operations or something like that. [s]secretly you did exactly what 049 does only in a much less graceful manner[/s]

The following is me stating my reasons for proposing some ideas for improvement on SCP-049:
Spoiler
So I was on a Markiplier marathon, watching his Let's Play of SCP: Containment Breach. I had been reading about every aspect of the game on the old wiki and the official wiki. I read up on SCP-049 LONG before Mark found him in game, and I had been anticipating when he would find the Plague Doctor, as 049 had become a fast favorite. I mean, his voice is amazing and ominous! (I'd let him operate on me, if you know what I mean) His outstretched hand naturally makes you want to run. The dark halls conceal him very well, just as they did for Larry in past versions.

Mark finally got up to version 0.7 and went searching for all the new SCPs, not finding 049 for a while. And then the second-to-last video played, with 049 towards the end. Mark's meeting with my favorite SCP ever was.....not that great. His entrance was FANTASTIC! ...and then he moved slowly after you. His zombies lumbered even more slowly. Oh no. You can EASILY outrun him and get to the elevator before he or his zombies can get around the first corner after 049's containment chamber.

So I looked up other instances of gamers finding 049! And every time they found him, it was even less impressive each time. Long story short, even though he's initially terrifying, his lack of speed and his small roaming area leave him well under the terror level of the other SCPs. I'm almost more terrified of the MTF than 049, which is rather sad because they're not even scary.

I created an account on this forum pretty much just to express my dislike for how 049 is utilized...
Reading through this thread, I've compiled some ideas that I like and added a few of my own ideas to them for my complete proposal for SCP-049.

The following are all of the posts I've quoted. There were quite a few that I stole the ideas from, so for space-saving reasons, I have hidden them. :

Steelpoint wrote:I do have some personal ideas on how to enhance SCP-049, in no particular order.

1. Have a percent chance of the player being infected with the "pestilence". SCP-049 has been shown to not attack people that do not have this aliment, so if the player is not infected SCP-049 will ignore the player, or even engage in conversation. Though SCP-049-2 won't be as friendly.

2. Have SCP-049 be a roaming SCP of sorts, essentially after it is discovered SCP-049 will move about the site at it own pace for a short period before retreating back to its own territory.

garbo wrote:Well, 049 it's now the second scariest SCP in CB (for me. 1st is 096)
Now we have to make 049 less avoidable. There should be a reason for entering his chamber (like 096, SPOILER!: you now have to enter the room where he is and move some switches). Maybe there you can get scp 860?

ShadowDust wrote:Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... So... The plague is a disease

Agreed. Since he is only limited to that area, I think he should have at least a little more speed. He should also chase you to the elevator. I've noticed that he gives up the chase a little too easy for my liking. I absolutely love this SCP and I think he is nearly perfect with that one exception.

Actually, he probably should be able to at least enter the elevator. Having him just stop at the entrance just makes it too easy for the player to evade him.

Serimah wrote:But I think he's falling short by being limited to his little tunnel and spawnpoint.
I managed to go through there without 049 even activating on several occasions.. which is a bit sad.

Personally I'd like to encounter 049 while he's operating on a corpse or scouting another victim of the "disase".
I've seen 049 bend over my corpse... not during the non-cheat gameplay though. And THAT is very important. The player needs to realize what is happening to him/her. At least partially.
I do love 049 talking to you casually, really. And I'm pretty sure that can be enhanced.

Prune wrote:SCP 049 does need more freedom around the facility as well as significance. I think the tunnels he spawns at should be taken as a beginning of a new stage in the game: a more difficult stage where 049 is roaming around the site doing his work, adding to the hazards of the game.
As much as I agree with that, I also believe there should be a real purpose for entering his chamber, and I have a possible suggestion...

The elevator that allows you to exit should have a broken button which cannot be used. In order to operate the elevator, you must enter a small closet of electrics and manually operate the lift. The door to the closet should require a key which may be used elsewhere in the game, and the only key should be within the chamber of SCP 049. In consequence, you may only be able to proceed by entering the chamber and collecting that key.

I think one of three thing should happen when you find SCP-049:
1: He senses the disease in you and continues on as normal like he already does, but with a few improvements, naturally.
2: You can occasionally find him "working" on a "patient". This causes him to stop and start chasing you, brutally murdering you if he catches you. In his document, it says he attacks and kills any human he comes across in the area before returning to his "patient".
3: You can take the cure-all pill (SCP-500) before you meet him (or after you meet him and he thinks you have the disease). This causes him to find you "pure" and assumes you're a fellow doctor. This would trigger another possible ending you can take if you choose to, in which 049 helps his "fellow doctor" escape.

I agree that in his containment chamber, you should be able to find SCP-860. The area you find him in should definitely be a bit larger, as well, and 049 should be able to use the elevator so he can follow you in there, and even use the elevator after he's activated to chase you through the main part of the building (after you've gotten well out of the tunnels, I mean).

(This next part is really only for when he's going after you)
I think that he should be able to walk as fast as 106. He seems to be slower than 106 (but maybe it's just me). I don't mind his zombies walking slow, but I feel like if they sense you, they should charge at you in a straight line, to where you need to dodge them and get away quickly (after all, in the document it explains that instances of SCP-049-2 experience a 300% adrenaline rush when near humans, which would increase their strength and stamina and allow them to momentarily have a burst of speed). 049 should also make a little bit of a charge when he gets close to you in an attempt to grab you, since his arm is already extended, or at least have his fingers/arm make a bit of a grabbing motion.

I think if he catches you, there should be a little cutscene that has him kneeling over you, working on you, while shushing you and assuring you that he is the cure, while you are mumbling and protesting, before you black out and die (right before the blackout, I think there should be some kind of emphasis on your character looking into his eyes). THEN it can go into the zombie phase where you get killed by the MTF. It doesn't have to be a long scene, since you die within moments, but just long enough for the player to really understand what 049 is doing to them.

(This next stuff is for when he thinks you're a doctor)
I don't really know what kind of ending would come about, but I think that if you use SCP-500 before you meet 049, he won't detect the disease in you and ask if you are a fellow doctor. If you use 500 AFTER you meet 049 and he detected the disease in you, then he will be slightly puzzled for a moment, then come to the conclusion that you MUST be a doctor and you simply needed to cure yourself, then will apologize for his egregious mistake.

Whichever happens, he would then ask the player why such a remarkable doctor would be trapped in the Foundation (or something like that) and ask to help the player escape in some form or fashion and/or help 049 escape, too (I'm really not sure how this would play out...I imagine it being a situation somewhat like how you "aid" 079 and he allows you leave through Gate B). Like perhaps he could give you the keycode for another exit or an office or something like that?

Some mock-up quotes for the above situations:
Spoiler
(when you interrupt his work)
"I need ultimate focus when healing my patients. You are an unwanted distraction."
"Quiet, please! You're interfering with this crucial operation."
"I can't have any interruptions. It will lessen the quality of my work."
"I must not have a disruption. I'm afraid you need to leave."

(during the "operation" cutscene)
"You poor, unfortunate soul... Let me help you."
"Hush now, you are in EXCELLENT hands."
"You needn't worry. My cure is most effective."
"Soon you will feel all better."

(when you meet him after using SCP-500)
"I do not sense the disease in you... Ah! You must be a fellow doctor! Quite splendid! Good doctor, how do you do?"

(when you use SCP-500 after meeting him first)
"What...? I no longer sense the disease in you. You're a doctor? How can that be? ...Perhaps I was mistaken. My most sincere and humble apologies, good doctor!"

...and then that's where my brain went kaput and can no longer churn out ideas. Hopefully I haven't made anyone else's brain explode from all this text. I tried to keep it organized. Forgive me ;u;

I like the whole idea of using SCP-500-01 to change his behavior and the idea of making him believe you're a doctor and helping you a bit like SCP-079 by taking it in front of him is even better.

Did anyone read the latest addition to SCP-049's article?

Spoiler
Addendum C-1: Level 3 authorization required: On 4-26-20██ SCP-049 managed to break containment. During the roughly 5 minute period which it was unsupervised, it came into contact with SCP-███. Upon being detained, SCP-049 was very calm and amiable. Since this time, however, SCP-049 has been shown to be much more talkative leading up to and performing surgery.

I don't know what oh-four-nine and that damned mask talked about, but he seems much happier overall. He no longer seems to simply sit and mope around in his cell, and several staff have claimed to hear him humming old church hymns. In addition, in the moments leading up to performing surgery, he has started talking, apparently trying to… comfort his victim. Claiming that he is the 'cure', among other things. The focus of our research has been shifted towards finding out what the hell he and [REDACTED] talked about during their little chat. -Dr. ████

That is quite interesting in my book. Although a "happier" doctor is not necessarily a good thing? And what mask-SCP is that? I really do wonder.
Although... imagine walking down 049's halls and hearing some rather quiet singing/humming in the distance. I think I'd just do a 180° and walk back to where I came from.

Goodness... I LOVE this. 049 has shot up quite a bit in my books, I really like this development. It further goes to prove that he isn't necessarily 'evil' and that he genuinely tries to help his victims. I love the idea of 049 humming for some reason. I really think he should be heard humming old hymns when idling.

Aw, Gabe, you didn't have to, I had a feeling he did this in light of how 049's been portrayed in CB.

Okay, I came across this thread while searching for any hints as to what "mask" SCP-049 had talked to during his breach. After reading over a bit of this thread I have an idea or two I would like to throw out there. This is just a creative overflow that I want to put out there, so don't take it too seriously. Hahaha.

Anywho, onto the ideas!!! (I will be responding to of the original quoted-quoted text above)

The idea was spawned by JoeKool's and ShadowDust's comments. That a Class D would not be seen as pure, as well as SCP-500 being able to cure the disease. As far as we know, since SCP-049's arrival to the Site in which he is contained, all he has be given to operate on is Class D personnel. During the times in which is "accompanied" to testing areas, he seems cooperative with both doctors and MTF guards. During the first documentation of SCP-049 speaking was when he was "en route to a testing facility." In which he said to Dr. [REDACTED], “Oh, good doctor, I can assure you, the Pestilence is here, and I can sense it. It is my duty in life to rid the world of it..." Which can mean that not only did he not immediately sense the Pestilence in the doctor to which he spoke, but also the guards who escorted him. So here is what all this babbling leads to: What if the Great Pestilence is not a disease of the body, but of the spirit, or soul?

SCP-049, as he stated in the quote prior, "It is my duty in life to rid the world of it." Also, Dr. [REDACTED] states: "I don't know what oh-four-nine and that damned mask talked about, but he seems much happier overall. He no longer seems to simply sit and mope around in his cell, and several staff have claimed to hear him humming old church hymns." He sings old church hymns, "senses" the Pestilence in people, and claims it is his DUTY to rid the world of it.

So once again, what if it is a taint upon a person's soul, from doing horrific acts so foul it corrupts them, that he senses? Thus the doctor, though he sends Class D personnel to their death in some cases no doubt, has never done anything DIRECTLY to taint his soul? What if SCP-049's cure is the purging of a person's soul, utterly destroying who they once were and leaving behind the dark and evil shell of the human coil but freeing them. (in his eyes of course, or maybe not? No one truly can understand such things...)
So in this case SCP-500 could not cure the player because it is his soul that is tainted not his body.

Also, I wholly support the percentage chance of having the Pestilence or not. As SciZoroark said, though offering the "what if you were a doctor," just because you are a Class D does not mean you could have the possibility of being innocent. What if you were framed, an accomplice who did not murder but did not stop the murder, or if you were truly repentant for your ill deeds of the past?
This all hinges upon the central idea of all this typing though: The Great Pestilence that SCP-049 seeks to cure is not an illness of the body, but the corruption of a person's soul. His cure is cleanses their soul, but in turn kills them... or not...

Just an idea...

Also, I apologize if this is a just a jumbled mess.
