Modding help

I feel like this should be a topic on this forum for obvious reasons. a lot of people have trouble with things including me. so I'd like to start with a question. when making any changes to waterbump.png it makes it so all BG wall textures are overlaid twice which is not very convienient. can anyone help me with this?

Waterbump.png is a normal map where the red channel is the displacement amount on the x-axis and the blue channel is the y-axis. If you change it to a, let's say reddish texture it means that everything underwater will be shifted to the left, while anything non-red would shift it to the right.

I would recommend making a black-and-white heightmap and converting it to a normal map with a tool like xNormal or NVIDIA's Photoshop Plugin.
