List of Various Containment Breach Ports

#1
So, I decided to make this thread cataloging and talking about nearly every attempt there has been to port Containment Breach to a different engine, for better or for worse. This thread was created mostly out of boredom and does not really serve a purpose, I just felt like doing this in my free time.

Ports are listed below in roughly the chronological order of their announcements. Only exception would be Chris0matic's Unity port, which technically started life as its own game predating Answer42's port. Without further ado, here they are:

Custom C++ Engine by Answer42: Answer42's Site ~ Unofficial Forum Thread
Probably the earliest port announced in Containment Breach's lifespan, around December 8th, 2012. This port was announced as being written on a completely custom made engine in C++, alongside the use of some third-party libraries. Its peak of popularity was reached after the dev released a test build of the game, though this build only featured a working launcher and main menu.

Somewhere around 2014 Answer42 pretty much dropped off the face of the internet and the port is presumed dead. There was not really much to look at to begin with, what with the only content shown being a menu.

Unity by Mirocaine, Chris "Chris0matic" Miranda & Ryan "Risingstar64" Stillings: Forum Thread
Originally starting life as an original game entitled SCP - Lockdown, this port was announced on June 22nd, 2013. It began life as an Unreal engine port before becoming the first (and certainly not the last) port attempt to the Unity engine. This port was arguably the most popular, and had a couple of then prominent contributors to vanilla Containment Breach working on it.

However, after a user by the name of Capy joined the project somewhere around 2014, most of the other people that were working on the port initially left the project, with Capy following soon after stating that continued development of the port would require "re modelling each room, which is a job for a better modeller and someone with the time and patience to do all this."

Mirror's Edge's Engine by Abincyprus: Forum Thread ~ Older Thread
Um, yeah. A port to Mirror's Edge.

Anyway, this port was announced on April 6th, 2014 as a mod that would bring the horror of Containment Breach into the 2nd best game about people doing parkour. The creator showcased some screenshots and youtube videos (all of which are now deleted) showing some retextured soldiers and a recreation of Containment Breach's intro sequence inside the engine.

The port eventually died off, with Abincyprus citing the fact that the engine was too restrictive, alongside the only way of modifying the game's code being through a buggy map editor that was never intended for public release.

Irrlicht by Juanjp600: Forum Thread
A port to the C++-based engine Irrlicht started on August 16th, 2014. This port was started in response to DirectX7 becoming more obsolete as Microsoft Windows was progressing.

The project had the most progress out of any other port so far, with a fully working map generation system and a sorta functional NPC and event system by the end of its run. The port was called off around the first half of 2016, with Juanjp600 citing his dwindling interest in Containment Breach as a whole being the deciding factor for its cancellation.

Unity by Danielmus: Forum Thread
Another Unity port, announced on the 6th of December 2014. There's not a lot to say about this port other than it was not going to include random map generation, but would rather use a preset map featuring redesigned rooms from Containment Breach.

The project was never officially cancelled, but has been on an indefinite hiatus since January of 2016. As of now we can reasonably conclude it is cancelled.

Unity by ShadowZ: No Links
This port's a bit tricky to talk about since ShadowZ never publicly announced it. Most of this information comes from both a rant and some conversations with Juanjp600.

This port was started by ShadowZ, the first of many people that worked on the multiplayer mod for Containment Breach. Their aim with this port was to apparently recreate the game in a fashion that retained its original look and feel, as mentioned in this rant they made towards Danielmus' Unity port.

They seemed to have gotten as far as getting the random map generation working alongside porting over all the rooms, with some mentions here and there of an inventory system being in the works. The last heard from them was around late 2015 and the project's most likely dead.

Fun fact, the last time I saw them their name was on the donation list for Board Game Online, having donated $20 to the site. Just thought that was interesting to note.

Source by Hebbocake: Forum Thread
A port to the ever-lovable Source engine (the 2013 version I think?) announced on March 10th, 2015. There's not much to say about it, as it died pretty quickly, only getting as far as a working menu screen.

Hebbocake decided to shift the game from a port of Containment Breach to a brand new SCP-based game in which you controlled an MTF unit. The last heard from this project was near the end of August 2015, and it's probably dead if anything else.

Unity by Zornor90: Forum Thread

This port has been in development since mid-2016, and was announced on September 27th, 2016. Unlike the other ports on this thread, it's actually still in activate development to this day and is steadily releasing new updates.

________________________________________________________________

And that's about it. If there are any other ports that I missed, then it's mostly likely because either they did not progress much before they were cancelled or they were very barebones to begin with.

Regardless, here are a list of "honorable mentions":

Blitz3D is open source; users could dedicate their time to trying to port it to OpenGL or a more modern version of DirectX
There are people that already did this
The only person that was making reasonable progress in updating Blitz3D's renderer died of an aneurysm. Obviously, the project wasn't finished and probably will never be, since the dev never released his source code.

Maybe if we had decided to work together on a single port rather than start over a dozen times, we'd already have Containment Breach on a better engine.

This. Now I can just link them this post instead of having to try and remember.
