I need an explaination on how does the vision function in SCP.

Hello guys,
I've recently gave myself a task to create a copy of the SCP game (for now idk for the future) in Unreal Engine. I'm doing this mostly for myself in order to understand how the Unreal Engine works. Also, I chose this game because it is one of my favourite horror games! I will honor your Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License and if I use anything from your game it will be mentioned. But currently I had a few ideas how to use the vision system works, however, maybe I should ask you since you have a better understanding.
My current idea looks a bit like this:

The red cone is what the player sees, if SCP-173 is in it he will stay still.
The black Ball the player and level is in is the max distance that the player can see.
