Building a Game...Need Ideas

Hey everyone.

I'm working on a game in Gamemaker Studio, and am trying to make it as unique as I can. I've had a few ideas, but some certainties are that it will be a 2D RPG set in medieval times, with an open world. In terms of story, I have a bit of a backstory involving 2 deities creating the entire multiverse through their never-ending fight using magic to create universes, thus expanding their power. Basically, I have it set up to explain why things work the way they will, but I don't want to go into detail on it because spoilers (*cough* laziness).

I want to have an extensive combat system centered around this, as well as a decent amount of customization of the main character. I have gotten into Dark Souls as well as Breath of the Wild recently, and am thoroughly enjoying that style of game, but don't want to accidentally make my game a clone of these.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
