Still having the same problem. I can kill livestock and mobs, but I'm 500 blocks from spawn and I still can't break anything.

I was on the server yesterday and was unable to manipulate the world in any way (break block, grass, etc.) Seems to be down again too. :(

I want to continue in parts, finishing all objectives (containing 106, talking to 079, etc.) and eventually finish the game now that there's a supposed ending. I'm also going to be adding a facecam and voice to the new parts.
