As with all free multiplayer games, Barotrauma is menaced with large amounts of people who find it more entertaining to go around injecting people with morbusine, batonning everybody they see and (of course) overloading the reactor than it is to actually play the game. So I thought that it might be a good idea to make a Communal Ban List - just somewhere where a list of 'griefer's' usernames and IPs can be shared with anyone who hosts a server and does not want to deal with restarting the round due to reactor explosions every five minute. I'll start by putting down all the entries in my banned_players.txt file that I'm certain had malicious intent. (I usually clear all the other bans by simply not copying them over when the game updates, which seems to be a good ban timeframe)

If you're a known and common host, chances are I'll add anyone you post into the list. If I haven't heard of you, I will add them at the bottom of the list under "accused". Please include reasons or they'll be removed from the list next time the game updates.

If you don't know how to include this on your server, look in your Barotrauma/Data folder and open up bannedplayers.txt then copy the list into that file.

All 3 work together it seems, if one of them does something wrong and gets banned (protip: they will), the rest go around griefing until they get banned at which point they probably join another game and start over again.

I'll also add your list to mine, with the exception of stalin who seemed alright when I saw him.

Ah, yes.
I had about 15+ players but UNFORTUNATLY due to a crash they dissapeared.
Be aware of this, hosters. If you ban people, and crash in the same lobby, they'll be unbanned.

All they need to do is change their IPs by either resetting a router that sets one dynamically or firing up a free proxy and running through the hoops. To quote Jurassic Park, griefers "find a way." Furthermore, who's to verify that any of these IPs 'are' griefers? Who screens the people who post these in the first place?

Glad to see you're attempting to do something, but you need to think this through. Count me out.

That's partly why I started the UCN; the time it would take for a griefer to strike, get banned, return and cause damage, thanks to all of the effort they would have to go through to fool us throughout the entire signup and training process, would be far too difficult for the average 14 year old and eventually wear them down.

The problem with UCN is that it's basically private.
There's no LARGE issue with that, it's elite players in a navy.

But the small issue is that, unless the UCN is extremely large, it cannot make up for the community.
That's where community hosters come in.

Edit: I just found out, that by adding to the notepad, you can change the player's name to whatever you want.
Which means(forexample) you can change Dr. Mengele to Mengele - griefer + mass rdm, (insert IP).

You must not have read that thread I posted, did you? I advocated 'clans' in general, not just the UCN.

It's my opinion that if you host a public game expecting anyone other than incompetent people or griefers to come in you're doing it wrong.

I imagine very few of the people being put up on this list will feel enough (if any) remorse to actually go through some impromptu ban appeal process some guy on the internet set up. Free VPNs work very well for a reasonably long time, and it's not like SS13 where there are only so many servers that you actually have to worry about the consequences of being banned.

Make a private group with a screening and sign up process to filter out griefers, or introduce the game to a few of your friends and fuck around with them. It's been working for me so far.

I think conformation by about 2-3 known members would be enough to add them to the list.

Although you are right, people could just reset their IP but alot of people don't have the knowledge/access to do that, I've seen banned players try to join my server continually throughout the day

To elaborate on the previous post;

Fair enough. Thing is, the majority of griefers seem to be under the age of 12, and I severely doubt they know the meaning of the word 'dynamic' or 'proxy'. I still get an average of about 2 banned players attempting to join each round, so it's obviously better than having nothing. As for the 'screening', anyone who is wrongly put on the list can simply post here to get removed; Most 'dedicated' and 'legit' players check the forums every now and then. Not a fix-all in anyway, but then, I never claimed it was.
