Maybe there could be a 1-5% chance every round you spawn with nearsightedness, where things are blurry about 5/10 meters away depending on the severity and you spawn with glasses to prevent the effect.
It can't be cured, but the effect can be prevented using glasses or contacts, and if you lose them you can fabricate another pair using a small number of materials.
It actually CAN be cured, but at an extremely high risk of exposing yourself to an artifact for about half a minute.
Re: Nearsightedness
#2Maybe it should be something acquired rather then spawned with
For example inexperienced crew mates using welders may accidentally look directly at the sparks while welding or extreme pressure warped the shape of your eyes. (different shapes of eyes cause people to be nearsighted/farsighted)
At the end of your mission you could pay a fee at an outpost for laser eye surgery

#3Thus, welding helmets/masks. But I believe it should be something that you spawn with too because I actually was born with nearsightedness.
Re: Nearsightedness
#4The thing is I’m sure people who are nearsighted are allowed on subs especially ones with high fatality rates like the ones on Europa
