Best way to test and play test my mod?

So like the title would suggest I'm lost for better ways to test my weapon mods. For example if I alter the value of an InventoryIcon tag I need to save the file relaunch the game and repeat to see my changes, this is beyond torture and personally has put me off making mods for the Steam workshop as it's a task to see changes you've made.

Currently there is no easy way to see if weapons will look correct, fit in characters hands or even appear properly without relaunching the game 100 times which is mind numbing, and this is for only one single weapon, if I want to do a weapon pack like I originally thought up it turns something that should be easy into a week long project.


Any tips or information on play-testing mods will be appreciated because the current method just isn't sufficient.
