3 i opened the exe (inside the download file)
4 the launcher opened
5 i picked 1280 x 800 screen size
6 the main menu opened
7 i started a new game
8 it loaded to 80%
9 a message came up saying "memory access violation"
10 i click ok...
11 the game exits.

Yeah, with the engine, you have to have a Windows OS to run this game. Wine does't work. I've tried it over and over on a Mac that I have. I can get to the main menu, but loading a game crashes it. (not even an error message, it just simply crashes completely) Though, I did get it to run one time. It was the very first time I ran it, and the game was running. A bit choppy, but it ran. Then it randomly crashed while I was playing and it never worked since. You really are better off using boot camp to partition your drive with windows, there isn't any other way at the current time. (and I wouldn't recommend windows 8 right now, there seems to be problems with it that other users are reporting, I'd stick with 7)

Hmmm, 80% is just about when the player entity is placed.

game runs fine on 8 once you find the workaround.
