I know the MTS's can attempt to re-contain 106, but can they contain 173, or be effected by it?

They can't capture or re-contain it right now. But regalis will add it in a future update.

Thanks for the relpy. I found it out when playing just now that it cant happen.

That would be nice. Because then the MTFs would forget about you and just stare at it while trying to recontain it.

I think they come in groups of 3 or 4 so one could go after you and the rest could keep a eye on 173...
