You have to come close enough into its proximity where it'll activate, quickly step back for it to go off, and run through before it activates again.

I go right near to but not in proximity. Then it sets off. I am not killed and I wait 3 seconds to make sure it isn't activating again. Then I run like hell.

It's not full of bullshit as it is more so not updated regularly.
