Lucid dreaming as I know it, is when you are sleeping and dreaming but you know you are dreaming, and knowing you are dreaming you can bend every rule the universe has in your dream, because it's your dream.
Short said; you are able to shape it as you want to, because you are the god in that world.

A few ways to find out that you are dreaming can be these:
-Pinch yourself in the dream
-Look at a clock in the dream, for example it can say the clock is 5, but look away and look at it again and it could say the time was 3.
Time is a broken thing inside dreams
-Look at written materials, the text will be un-readable or non existant.

If people here means the feeling of leaving your body while sleeping, that's astral projection, a completely different topic.
Thanks for that, ive never had one that i remember. Guess some people dont.

I had a lucid dream once. It was awful. It started with me looking down at two giant lava monsters fighting each other, and I standing in the air... somehow. So, I KINDA-SORTA figured I was dreaming. So what did I do? I made it so I was in class, and then I stopped being able to control my dreams.

...
I have weird dreams.
Spoiler
Also, I had a relative who had astral projection. Sounded fascinating.

I've had some before. I remember this one that took place in the street outside my house, i was able to jump to incredible heights and travel distances very quickly, but i kept seeing monsters in the dream, i remember one that was under a parking lot suddenly stretched out a hand and grabbed me by the ribs then started crushing me, i started to try to snap out of the dream and when i woke up my ribs kept hurting like bloody hell.

I'd like you all to read this.

But, being stuck in sleep paralysis isn't nice either. I remember this time where i had mutliple false awakenings, and one of them was about being in the bathroom floor in the night, the lights were off and everything was very dark, i was staring into the ceiling for what seemed half an hour (my hands are actually shivering as i write this and i don't know why, but i'll keep writing either way.), i kept staring into the ceiling and couldn't snap out of that position, i wasn't able to move and if i tried to scream, all i did was give out slight, near-unaudible syllables. And if i made a lot effort and tried to move desperately, all i was able to do was to rotate my wrists or move my shoulders slowly.

After desperation and struggling i could finally move, i stood up and turned on the bathroom lights, which were darker than usual and the ambient was slightly strange, like heavy air, i looked into my reflection in the mirror and i also looked weirder than usual, my eyes were more sunken than usual (i have slightly sunken eyes which give me a slightly tired appareance.), so sunk that it seemed like if i hadn't eaten in weeks, my lips were dry and my face dirty, my hair was a mess, my clothes (which were the usual shorts and shirt) were dirty too and cut in random areas. I sat down in the bathroom floor to try to understand what was happening (I didn't know it was a dream at the time), i sat down and looked to the ground, it looked like if it was moving up and down, like if it was liquid.

I took a deep breath and opened the bathroom door, the house had all lights off, the darkness was blacker than usual (my house usually gives a calm dark blue tone when the lights are off), i looked at the closed doors of the other rooms, there were faint lights coming out of them, calm and relaxing lights but subtle and strange at the same time (My hands keep shivering harder and harder), i closed the door again and started breathing quickly, the tiles in the floor had changed colour and looked dirtier, i didn't feel like staying there any longer. I took another deep breath and went out of the bathroom, i stood outside for a while and stared at the doors. Then i looked at the one that went to the street, it didn't have any lights as the other ones.

A flat balloon passed floating near me. A flat balloon. It was rather amusing to see how it broke the laws of physics. I went back to the door, now the ambient getting darker and darker, i could hear muffled voices coming from the doors, muffled and distorted voices like if people were talking inside. I could hear the walls breathing lifelessly.

I took one final deep breath and went to the door going for the street. The sky looked red and dark, there were blue, glowing crystals coming out of the ground and floating in random parts of the sky (they had the same lights as the doors.), the air was heavy and i felt lightheaded, i suddenly started puking very hard without stopping. I looked at my neighbours houses, everything looked dead.

Suddenly sounds started sounding more and more muffled and the floor turned into meat. Bloody meat, every step you took made my legs get covered and more covered in blood, the air had a foul smell of rot, i could see dead dogs in the street and a homeless man asking for help, his limbs amputated, but he was still alive. I stood there, staring into the sky for what seemed to be around 5 minutes. I woke up from the dream.

The worst part was...

I was paralyzed in my bed. I couldn't move but i could hear things and also see. I kept hearing the muffled voices and feeling the heavy air. I felt like i was sleeping on a bed made of very cold meat. I struggled and suddenly, the same limbsless homeless man suddenly comes out of the wall, falls to the ground, and starts crawling around the room, he struggled and got on my bed, near my legs, and stared at me. I finally regained conciousness a short while after.

This was hard for me to write, my hands were shivering all the time. I hope you guys read that.
