I've found that people who seem that way fall in one of three categories.
1: The person is young and immatuer.
2: The person is reacting emotionally about a subject rather than rationally.
3: The person is ignorant on a subject and pretends to know for the sake of fitting in or because of their pride.
This has been my experience. I assume this is what you meant by 'people being stupid'.
