Hello, everyone... I've been on computers for a long time, but I've never had the chance to use one which was optimized for gaming.
My current computer has trouble running Binding of Isaac on low settings. However, I digress.

I was wondering if anyone on the forum was familiar with overclocking, and could possibly give me some advice.

My processor is an AMD C-50, which only runs at 1.00GHz. Does anyone know what a good overclocking speed would be, or if it will even help?

So here is my benchmark score compared to yours, I Consider myself to have a old gaming computer (as in before graphics were done in cpus).

Most new games my computer has trouble with so even I could use an upgrade.

Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50GHz --- 3075
AMD C-50 --- 479

But the minimum requirements according to systemrequirementslab for the game are...

CPU Speed: 2.5 GHz

Of course this is a bit to general to compare to ourselves. Although, usually when they say 2.5ghz and nothing more it means a single core CPU.

So you have 2 cores @ 1 gig so you probably hit shy of the minimum.

You are probably on a laptop, so you wouldn't even be able to overclock that much, and even then; you would need to at least double your speed to get to a medium settings as opposed to low.

Also, some laptops just don't let you overclock at all...

Yeah, I was worried you'd say that... It's a Toshiba laptop... I think it was made for soft internet browsing, and writing documents and such... :( I just wish I could enjoy some of the wonderful games on the internet, like everyone else... I have trouble running SCP: Containment Breach on my computer, which is wonderful, considering I'm on the forum...

If you can get $350 bucks you can probably make a PC that is good enough to run games on high. Not very high or ultra but on high nonetheless. Then later you can upgrade more when you get more cash to blow!

come to think of it, all the parts in my comp right now i think would add up to $350...

You just need the monitor/keyboard/sound already.

If you want a gaming rig, DO NOT BUY FACTORY.
Buy cheap, overheating graphics card, good processor, a good case, RAM, motherboard, and a few other things like soundcard, then, you implement the water cooling for 3-4 hundred.
After that, you can run anything without getting hot. It's amazing. Some guy even hooked it up to his pool pipes, it wasn't good for the tubing, and correded some of it, but he heated he pool almost 2-3 degrees when
he left his computer running Crysis games on ultra settings over-night. Anyways, Over-clocking is risky. I'd suggest to start with 5% and go in small increments till you hear the fan running hard. but still be careful. I'd suggest NOT going over 130%, max if your processor makes it there. Provide adequate cooling, overclocking is OVER the set limit, because it can almost double the temperature with just a little bit of extra load.

When I grow older I'm definitely building me own PC! Building your own is cheaper than buying a factory one, but it always demands blood sacrifice.
