#58About that bomb you talked about, well I used it. Anyway here is the official up to date explanation of what is going on, so everyone knows that I am actually doing something.
Basically the vast majority of bots that register on this forum don't make it past activation, meaning they just loiter around doing nothing, though a minority of them are smart enough(or human controlled) to get past those defenses and post the spam threads we all know and love. So what have I been doing you may ask. First thing I have been doing is to change the anti spambot countermeasures a bit. Minor stuff but the big thing I did was to make it that users cannot post new threads until they are considered a full member.
Basically when someone registers an account they are put into the "Newly Registered Users" group, this group has different permissions than everyone else, the main one being that they cannot post threads. The hope is that this will cut off pretty much all of the spam content. Now the reason why there still have been spam posts is because these setting only affect users that register after I made the changes, so old accounts remained unaffected. However to offset this I recently pruned (Nuked) a massive amount of old and newer spam accounts (Over 1800 accounts).
Hopefully this means the spam issue becomes less of an issue from now on. However there may still be a few old spam accounts left that I did not delete, since I wanted to avoid deleting actual user accounts by mistake.

#60That's kind of a bad idea I see the only ones suitable who are active enough for mods turn it down and the only one left is me who cannot become mod once more, also some bad behavior on some of the active users.Jellycog wrote:The bot business is getting out of hand now. It's not so much just banning one user now for their first inappropriate behavior like before, to be honest half of the time I had no idea what I was doing because it was so disorganised.
