No, both side edges are almost flat, so they appear to ripple, since both sides do this the image appears to rotate.
Anyways, look up the Ganzfeld effect. I swear it's true, it sound really stupid at first though.

I know the image isn't actually moving, but I hate how the human brain makes it seem that way.
