So, there is a bug that's going around with all Source games that use Source SDK 2013 Base and anything beneath, and just in basic, Source. The bug allows certain files to be downloaded onto your machine, which in most cases can now be a Virus which will steal your Steam Account, spam friends, and take everything in your inventory. It will ALSO V.A.C ban you.

The Source Games and Mods that are effected are but are not limited to: The Source Games and Mods that are NOT effected are but are not limited to: VIRUS PREVENTION/REMOVAL

To prevent virus downloads, take these steps:

1. Type these commands in console:

cl_allowdownload 0
cl_allowupload 0
cl_customsounds 0
cl_disablesprays 0


2. Disable Custom Sprays in options.


3. Play ONLY on Official VALVe/Mod Developer servers.

4. If you already played on a custom server (as of 9/5/2015), take these steps:

4.1: Navigate to the main folder for the Source Game (ex, TF2 = tf, CSS = cstrike) (Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ ((x86) IS ONLY IF YOU HAVE A 64 bit COMPUTER!))

4.2: Delete the "download" folder, or everything in it (Except readme.txt, if the folder has that.)

EDIT 1: Apparently, VALVe has put out a "Bugfix", so Update your Steam clients and games now. The Games patched are:

EDIT 3:

Team Fortress 2, CS:GO and DOTA 2 are now CONFIRMED patched, and can not be exploited unlike modded stuff like TF2: Classic. Be careful, and keep an eye out for a patch to fix this.

Removed Garry's Mod from the list. It is using Source SDK Base 2010, and the problem was patched long ago.

hmmm ive never had this problem. then again i have avast. the only virus attempts ive ever had through steam ae those faggots that use the fucking screenshot scam. and my avast blocks that too.

Funny enough, I don't think Avast! stops Source games downloading stuff. Then again, you probably played CS:GO, TF2, or DOTA2, since those are patched.

Nope. Ive played Garry's Mod and No More Room In Hell. and ive been fine.

C:\Program Files (x86)\ (x86 is only for 64 bit computers).

If you were a bit more observant, it's shown earlier in the OP.
