Yes I agree, I don't think 990 should tell the player EXACTLY what to do; rather, he should give mysterious yet ominous and terrifying hints. And also, should 9341 really talk before the game even starts? It wouldn't feel like YOU were in the game anymore. Anyways, this is my spin:

990: The doors won't respond
[pause]
990: None of them will
[pause]
990: My friend likes to move when you're not looking
[pause]
990: I wouldn't wake up if I were you...

I feel that giving hints through 990 is fine, but it seems a little forced as of now and the 173 document already tells noobs what to do. Anyhoo, this is just my spontaneous idea, accept it or reject it, I just want to throw out as many ideas as possible so we can all make a kickass intro!

The only problem with the document, is you get it after you can be killed by 173. Maybe another D could slip you the 173 document before you enter. He'd say something like " I found this on a desk, you got any idea what the hell that thing in the picture is?" Then the player could access the document before they actually go in the room, and die (If their noobs anyways).

But, yeah i'll record them as soon as i can. :)

Regards,
No, it's just a suggestion at the moment. Perhaps if Regalis would look at this idea, then maybe we can see to it making its way into the game.

I personally don't think D-9341 should speak again, it'd be weird for him to speak only for the intro and never again (other than 012, which I still feel mixed about). I think 990's monologue would be an awesome way to start off the game, however, it'd be better imo as a monologue, kinda like Gman's opening monologue of Half Life 2, then the dream fading out to D-9341's cell, like how it does so with the train in HL2.
It slep time bunner.

I prefer silent protagonists for games like these. If D-9341 ever starts regularly speaking and displaying personality, then I would feel more secure knowing that I'm not the one trying to escape from the dangerous facility, he is! :D Makes sense, right?

That to me is the perfect way to utilize 990. I also think he shouldn't appear any other time to the player afterwards. He did his job by giving the player a warning. He has no reason to stick around after that.

I'd love to do an 990 intro through. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XrP1pTHsFg (if you haven't seen it)

Regards,
Brilliant! The voice for 990 is spot on and I really love how the creepy sounding alarm clock sounds off towards the end before the agent wakes up. That would be a perfect intro; 990 leaving a creepy and ominous farewell. something like:

990: You don't want to wake up, but it looks as if you haven't a choice...

and then the creepy alarm clock transitions to a real alarm clock sounding off in the cell and your vision blurring back to reality! how awesome is that

Maybe this:
SCP-990:
You look afraid. Don't be afraid. This is a dream, the last dream you may ever have, for nightmares are coming.
[pause]
You will be taken into a chamber -- my friend's. He [lightly chuckling] likes to get you when you're not looking.
[longer pause]
Alright. All that I want to say say is that, when you get there... things may -- no -- will go wrong, so, if I were you, I wouldn't want to wake up. But unfortunately you must.

This is a much better draft in my opinion, the only part I feel somewhat off about is the reference to 173, as it seems somewhat too light-hearted, even for 990, something more vague and foreboding could work better. But I love everything else you have going for it, foreshadowing like that would be really cool. I love to help a bit to work on this though, and perhaps extend it a little bit.

That's pretty understandable, but I can assure you you won't have a hard time finding more VA roles, there's quite a few I can see being added in the future that you'd definitely suit, seeing as how you have an incredible ensemble of different voices. (seriously, Bane? Badass.)

I'm pretty sure everyone thought of your 990 video when you popped into the thread, I couldn't think of a better VA for 990. (Same way I think of 049, can't hear the character speak in another voice.)
It slep time bunner.

I like it! Maybe to refine it a little more (I think it would be cooler if you didn't immediately know it was a dream):

990: The world is a strange place, isn't it? The things people do to feel safe.
[pause]
990: But safety and containment are illusions, it's manners that will truly keep you alive.
[pause]
990: Look my friend in the eye when you address him, isn't that the way of the gentleman?
[pause]
990: As for my other friend, he'd kill you if you even raised your head in the slightest! (Laugh)
[faint dreamy alarmclock ringing starts]
990: What a sight it'd be to behold, the Foundation doors crumbling down! But if I were you, I'd continue dreaming
[alarmclock ringing grows stronger]
990: Oh! It looks as if you haven't a choice.
[Ringing grows stronger and stronger till it becomes reality with an actual alarmclock ringing, player woken up]

That's just my take, I interpret 990 as a mysterious old figure with a gentlemanly control of the language. My intro might be a little too big, but this is just my spin on all the ideas thrown around! Feel absolutely free to criticize.
