It usually has to do with differing styles and interpretations. Since many SCPs don't have real photographs of them on the official site, people usually have to come up with what they think certain SCPs will look like. Style is also a majoring factor with artists; compare a cartoonist like me with a detailed artist like Moonsaber or Rox's wife. Heck, just look at the differences between how the three of us interpret 682!

This is what I love about the SCP Foundation; you get a melding pot of artists with their own styles and interpretations of SCPs~

((also you gotta admit, things involving 682 with 053 is super adorable as it is))

That is what the beginning of it look vectorized, although the bottom half-needs clean up.
This is just a quick drawing that took 30 mins, without changing brush size. All the fills are just scribbles at this point.

Oops, forgot to mention I used smoothing on the scales, and I shouldn't of. If I do seriously make another, I'll be sure to take this off.
