If you read my old signature, you'd know this game is already beta.

Why must I be so nitpicky.

Huh, I was always under the impression that Alpha was the stage where the game is still growing, and that Beta is the complete release (around v1.0 in this case).

Oh well, my mistake.
It slep time bunner.

Yeah, I'd just reccomend this honestly for now. We'll start posting screenshots soon, we're making progress and still chalking out what needs to be redone and how it will be done.

Yeah, that's what I figured. *shrugs*

Yay, can't wait to speculate for more SCPs. I remember when you were posting about 049 on the Dev Topic #2 thread a while before 0.7. My suspicions were all too correct. :106:

Alpha is testing among devs. When the public gets hold of it, it becomes a beta.

All this talk of alpha and beta releases are all well and good but that was before we had kickstarter and Minecraft. Minecraft showed us that releasing a game during alpha stages is actually quite profitable, and kickstarter fed this belief.

In other words, the definition of alpha and beta stages in game development is going to change rapidly over the next few years, thanks to the boatload of Indie games we have :)

Yeah, Minecraft pretty much redefined 'Alpha' and 'Indev/In-Development'.

I guess some developers have different definitions for alpha/beta, but I've always thought that beta is a version with all the features of the finished game/software that just needs some bugfixes and maybe some minor polishing.

Anyway, I've been working on the map editor for the past few days and it's now functional. Now I just need to make it a bit more user-friendly and it's done.

I'd say Alpha is more or less something like a playable tech demo, like Among the Sleep, while Beta has most of the features planned to be in the full game.
