I agree there is no indication that the touch of death is a mental affliction, however there is nothing to suggest it isn't. The [DATA EXPUNGED] could literally be anything, so we can't rule out that it has a psychological effect (Not memetic, that's something else entirely).

the thing is that 714 protects you from weak psycological effect like small compulsions and from memetic agents, even if the death was a mind effect triggered by contact (in which case the victim would suffer nothing instead of suffering [DATA EXPUNGED] and then dying like the article says) it is not a weak compulsion or a simple direct order, making 714 useless.

People overestimate 714.

The article states that 714 grants an abnormally high resilience to all mind-influencing effects, meaning powerful psychic attacks are greatly diminished while weaker ones are completely nullified. The only mental assault 714 cannot adequately protect the wearer against are long-lasting or continuous effects, and I'd say the touch of death is quite an immediate action. (Sorry to be so persistent about this)

I should also note that 714 provides tolerance to harmful chemicals in the wearer's body, so perhaps it could slow down the effects of SCP-008 as well if for some reason the player doesn't have the hazmat suit when approaching its containment.

Look man. Instant death isn't a mental atack. As much as you try it won't ever be, neither it has ever been that. Something psycological or memetic is something that affects the mind and stas in the mind, the painting that makes you crazy is psycological, the painting that makes your head explode isn't. Also this is 049, the "plague doctor",do you wan't to believe that "SCP-049’s touch is invariably lethal to humans. After contact with SCP-049’s hand(s), the victim (hereafter referred to as SCP-049-2) suffers [DATA EXPUNGED] and dies within moments." means that his hand causes a psycological effect that causes death? Most people would think of illnes or diseases(because... plague... and doctor), I can't even think of anything that made you ponder the posibility of it being a mental attack?

You want to believe that it is? Fine, believe whatever you want.

Also 008 is a virus. Absortion of chemicals and a viral infection are things as different as the night and the day.

New to the forums, YAY. Soo, in-topic, this udpate was AWESOME. I love the new events,(I think The statue should spawn IN FRONT of the body and not in a random place in the room), the 096 killing scene was cool, and it was awesomer being forced to enter and risk in to seeing him for being able to escape, I think :106: shouldn't be allowed to spawn in there, and :173: should despawn after the murder (Another blackout maybe?) any ways, thanks Realis for the awesome Udpate (I apologize for using the word Awesome lot of times)

Well, I studied them as category of virus, but wikipedia says that's wrong. But it is a germ, and their infections are different from normal chemical absortion.

Speaking of 714 preventing things from happening, shouldn't 714 protect the player from the diseases in 1025? 1025's effect is memetic, as stated on the official wiki and game wiki/text, yet reading it while wearing the ring still causes you to come down with the disease you've read.

ALSO, is it just me, or has 895 not been showing up in the maps anymore? I've gone through at least 5 games exploring the whole map seed and not ONCE did I find that coffin. 8\ I want to know if anything has been added to it that'll make you want to go in there, like how a radio was put into 372's room, or the keycard and S-Nav in the room where 173 breaks through the glass.

I wish there was a keycard progression system with higher level keycards appearing in progressively hazardous places.
