So I was thinking that it would be a better idea to place it on a lower level than the maintenance tunnel, to give free reign to the size of the forest. You would access the test center via an elevator with a level 1 restriction.
The other option would be to have the player teleport and experience a blur effect the instant you enter the forest.
Well my idea would be a sort of 'visual portal' in the doorframe from the testing room to the forest, when you go through the portal the player is teleported to that room down there and can even look back through the doorframes Portal to see the testing room, once they take enough steps in that they can't immediately sprint back fast enough to get inside the testing room again, a trigger activates slamming the door shut very fast.
A great example is this video of it being in BLITZ3D:

But it seems a bit complex right now and Regalis is probably better suited to doing it, I think for a placeholder we keep the same above idea, but instead use a sort of 'Blue Mist Wall' at the doorframe instead of a visual portal, once the player enters it will blind them momentarily and they will be teleported to the forest room area (way below the map) and the door will promptly slam shut behind them, just like in Dark Souls when your about to fight a boss here (at 0:07) :

Except the fog will be a blue hue and all that. Seems feasible?
Edit:
And on the topic of they're being wooden doors in the facility -- I don't think the foundation would keep such outdated things around. The metal sliding doors are indeed much more safe and feasible for such a facility. There is ONE wooden door with a key lock that causes the key to attune to it's coordinates only; for safety reasons. It's just a possible shortcut through the facility and to some documents/items possibly. I'd like more idea's though..
