Has anyone used Camstudio? I would like to know your feelings on it and if it is as good as I heard Frapps and Bandicam to be.

I had CamStudio on my PC, but it didn't seem to work.

Lies, FRAPS is easy to use and has excellent video quality. Camstasia has limited options and just acts better as a movie editor in general.

DXtory is nice, too.

Video recording usually gets bottlenecked by the destination drive's write speed. If you're using a derptop, it's often the lack of a decent GPU. If your hardware isn't up to snuff, your framerate while recording and/or quality of the output video will be terrible.

You'll never find free recording software that records Dx or OGL applications well.

Fraps and Dxtory are always good choices, and I've heard good things about Action!, though I've never used it.

My friend managed to make videos by using some Python script.

I can't spend any money and I don't want to pirate, which is why I was looking for some free software. I've heard some great things about Camstudio which includes that it's free. I would like to know if Camstudio is as it's hyped up to be.

You can always use the bandicam demo. If you don't want the timed videos or watermark you can use the trial.
