Rating: 5.5/7.9

what causes the random FPS lag spikes and how can i fix it?

Answers i do not want to hear
"Get a better computer"
"buy better hardware"
or anything simular

I did virus scan.
I did try to update my Gcard
I did uninstall/reinstal.
I did try to use game booster.

This only happens while in A source engine game. Online. singleplayer it does'nt lag at all.

VIndictus is the worst for it.
even juring a nuke in Gmod it does'nt lag, unless im in multiplayer...

its so weird...

2 questions,

Did you try to lower graphics settings to low on pretty much everything and see if it still lags?

Are you using avast or avria?

Edit: 3 questions; Was it always laggy or this just happened out of nowhere?

yes... i get 60fps on any detail and every minute or so it spikes to 0 and 9 then goes back up... most frequent at boss fights in Vindictus.

im using Panda.

And it only lags in multiplayer source engine games.

I would tell you to check your temperatures, but amd's are supposed to simply shut off when overheated as opposed to super slow downs like intels.

What the hell, use speedfan or a similar program to monitor your cpu temperatures when the spikes occur. Then tell us how high it gets.

Try running a clean up with CCleaner, include registry.

Then do a full defrag with Piriform Deffragler, in source games maps are continually loaded around so the hard drive may get a little unorganized.

Agreed with CCleaner.

Disagreed with Defraggler.

Defraggler causes System Restore Points to increase in space. That could cause Gigabytes of Hard Drive space being used up.

Use Auslogics Disk Defrag and go to options to enable VSS Mode. That will stop it from messing with System Restore.

Be sure to uninstall any Toolbars etc. that you may have. I would also be wary of any " Utilties " you may have that claim to find problems on your Computer and will fix them for a Price. Those are Rogues. If you have any, Delete them straight away.

Source games do load continually, every model is cached, ever thing loaded copied, try de-fragmenting your HDD first.
(Start-Menu>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Degragmenter, then defragment disk.)
