Deal with MLP?

#1
In no way am I trying to be offensive in any matter to anyone here, but what makes grown men and non homosexual guys so fascinated with my little pony? There's this kid at my school (who's a friend of mine) that constantly gets picked on because of this. Sometimes I make side comments about it but I don't constantly pester the kid about it. And MLP is one of the most god feminine thing I've ever seen. I've never watched any of the episodes. Maybe one night when I was drugged up at a friends place (because I can recall seeing ponies?) But that's it. Does it relate to others and their every day lives? I'm not trying to be mean at all what so ever but may someone please explain?

P.S. Using shit Android phone so there may be some spelling errors or misplaced words.

The show in itself is, as you said, intended for audiences of younger ages and aimed more towards the female gender. This is entirely true. However, as an older male who happens to enjoy the show there are multiple things that allow me to find it awesome.

First, the acting and animation are superb. As a fellow actor and voice actor, it is something I can HIGHLY respect. Not to mention the show stars the amazing Tara Strong (Past rolls include Timmy Turner, Batgirl, Raven from Teen Titens, and the blue power puff girl)

Second, the show has an amazing score. The music numbers and Overall soundtrack are just beautifully done. The background music is original and the music numbers take inspiration from many different genres. For example, the Flim Flam brothers song (Found Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ssl1RxwMWNA) takes heavy inspiration from The Music Man, one of my all time favorite musicals.

Another, very major, factor that brings my enjoyment would be the under-the-radar humor that simly flies over the heads of younger kids but people of older generations get. This includes minor sexual innuendoes, jests towards swear words, etc. It adds to the appeal and humor of the show, especially if you get the references.

Now, it is my opinion that My Little Pony also has one of the greatest villains of all time. This villain, of course, being Dicscord. (Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-wVmpMMzhw) One of the main reasons this character is loved is because he is both based off of and voice acted by the man who played Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

So yeah, I'm a Brony and proud. However, I would like to point out that the title Brony doesn't come with merely watching the show. Brony is the term used to describe the bigger fans of the show, which I am. You can simply appreciate the show, watch it in your free time, and still not be a Brony.

As others have said, you really need to watch the show for yourself to form your own opinion. The first two episodes of Season One are indeed very clichè and corny, but do get better. I recommend watching at least half of season one if you want to form your own solid opinion.

Oh, and if anyone continues to call us "retarded" or "brain-damaged" for watching and liking the show, you can expect a very swift kick to the arse from me. You are disturbing the peace and blatantly insulting people for what they like. Try to be civil, or get out.
This is Xander's explanation which I completely agree with.

Alright. But is it really worth being taunted every day by people who don't understand it? Ofcourse if its something you truely love then I guess but still. It has to feel weird watching it. And it would be pretty akward to watch it with other people around. It's just a series that I seriously do not want to get into. Although I see a brony as an immature person who simply cannot let go of his childhood and move on as an adult in the real world. But if they want to engage in this series that will socially damage them then let them be them.

Referring to us as socially damaged is somewhat being mean.
As well as being a great show it also has a great community behind it, I would go into more detail but it's 1:00 AM and I should be sleeping.

A television show does not, and never will, socially damage a person. Your lack of understanding social psychology is very appalling. If you judge a person solely on their entertainment taste and other such petty things, I pity you. It is that individual's choice to watch such a show with their friends and if they base their personality purely on that, they were never friends to begin with.
Also, being a part of any group (fandom, religion, etc) does not automatically make them one thing just because of the ideals of a handful of individuals in said group (referring to your "bronies=immature" comment).

It's not socially damaging in the least for me, and most people know I'm a brony. I don't get pestered or picked on and nobody cares. It's not like you're telling everyone your gay (not that I would care) or something like that, it's really more like being a trekkie or a star wars buff. The people who do make a big deal of it or pretend they're better than everyone for watching it are why people think we're faggots. Yes, the show is very feminine but I think it's funny and really cute. It's more mature and it's not very cynical, so it's enjoyable not in the way that "The Walking Dead" is, but in it's own way. It doesn't turn you feminine or anything either.

I like your big words. Although I have no problem with bronies. Only time I did was when they were picking on me but that's different. Im not gonna judge someone by what they like, I may joke about it but I wouldn't mean anything to be taking seriously. And stop coming to me all antagonist like I know your not going to do anything. And by socially damaged I mean being shunned upon socially by other people who have normal standards that look at it in a taboo manner. Besides, I already pity you sense you can't stand up for yourself and just run away from a fight therefore I wouldn't care if you pitied me anyways.

"Run away from a fight"? You mean that ignorant comment from the other thread? This the Internet, not a bar. You can't "fight" anyone on the Internet. :|
