I'm guessing it's 173 itself preventing the game from being saleable.Regalis wrote:Nope, both the game and the wiki are under a Creative Commons license that allows anyone to redistribute and sell the material
Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#12How would being on Steam magically make the game more popular?ME2 wrote:But you can't deny that it would be much more popular then.
From what I recall it still had issues regarding the Steam overlay. However, now that the game's on an open sourced version of Blitz3D it might be possible to better integrate it.Nehpys wrote:I would like to mention that InnocentSam already did a Steamworks implementation of Containment Breach, so it wouldn't be THAT hard implementing it right?
Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#13Okay, i wasn't sure, i'm sure you remember all kinds of stuff with the creator of 173 and i've also heard that scp wiki people aren't exactly the friendliest XDRegalis wrote:Nope, both the game and the wiki are under a Creative Commons license that allows anyone to redistribute and sell the materialHahmonen wrote:Also, scp wiki owns the rights to SCP's pretty much so they would get the money if you had to pay for it.

#14Easier Download , more PlayersHahmonen wrote:I don't even see a point in releasing it on steam, you can get it easily from here, so what's the point? Also, scp wiki owns the rights to SCP's pretty much so they would get the money if you had to pay for it.
Of course anyone can get it easily from here but that doesn't mean that they do. Steam just makes it easier and reaches more people. Also Free publicity for example: people see when they're friends are playing SCP:CB (also screenshots and all that stuff)
I don't know about the reviews though...
I think it's pretty unpredictable how people will react.
It isn't very stable, especially for the average steam user.
Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#15I would argue that even if Steam is more convenient, that wouldn't just instantly revitalize interest in CB. I could name a number of games which are substantially better than CB yet still get little attention through Steam.I suppose if you're reading this you wanna hear my dank, angsty hidden message that I think no one will ever see. And that message is CB really, really shouldn't be on Stea-OH MY GOD MARK HOW DARE U CB IS BEST HORROR>:(((((ME2 wrote:Easier Download , more Players

Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#16SCP: CB while a game that is quite random, is a game that is meant to played through once. That is the problem with SCP: CB. It won't be able to continue to hold onto a crowd of players with its repetitive gameplay.
Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#17Another problem with game popularity is the chance of generating a cancerous fandom like FNAF.Inclination wrote:SCP: CB while a game that is quite random, is a game that is meant to played through once. Playing SCP : Containment Breach since v0.6.5.
My favorite SCP's: Pretty much all of them

Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#18Even though I agree with FNAF's fandom being cancerous, I don't see how the possibility of getting such a fanbase is a valid argument against putting CB on Steam. If CB was a commercial game, Reg would probably look for and embrace that sort of thing. It isn't commercial, but still, from a dev's point of view, I'd say any fandom is better than none, and the bigger it is, the better.
Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#19So... the only problem here is Steamworks integration
Well apart from people thinking that there is no reason to put it on Steam.
If the game really is getting less popular right now atleast it should try before dying.
The Greenlight Submission Fee has already been paid so the only thing the developers would have to do
is putting some hours into Steamwork, which i think would be worth it.
Worst case scenario:
The hours will have been wasted
Best case scenario (possibly after another few updates) :
A big Youtuber plays SCP:CB once again, getting fans to play it aswell who will then be able to download the game easily
through Steam (without losing interest while searching) also, the people who watch that Youtuber will then be able to see
the game in multiple places on steam (as said, friends playing, recommendations and so on).
Those fans would then lead to more Youtubers and fans playing.
Also: More Publicity for Barotrauma anyways.

Re: What is holding SCP - Containment Breach back from being on Steam?
#20Well is SCP 173 is actually licenced under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License now so the only problem would be getting it to work with steam.AgentParadox wrote:I'm guessing it's 173 itself preventing the game from being saleable.Regalis wrote:Nope, both the game and the wiki are under a Creative Commons license that allows anyone to redistribute and sell the material
