Is sticking a note to a tree really considered a cliche?
If it is used repetitively in every single indie horror game in the world, then yes, it is cliche.

By that logic flashlights in horror games are a cliche.
You'd need a flashlight in the outside wilderness, or else you'll just be killed in a second by the enemy you're being stalked by. It will be like this :087_2: where it pops out in front of your face.

No, flashlights are ok, because they are actually easy to get. Pages, they are annoying because you have to collect them all before some tall faceless buisnessman kills ya.

If you are talking about adding a flashlight just for for 860 i don't think it is needed just for that. But a flashlight in other parts of the game to help you see further would be good. Or perhaps the lighting in the game should be adjusted, i don't like how the lighting looks now. It looks unrealistic and should let you see just a little bit further.
Let's throw everything in and see what happens!

Hmm, Enma, remember the notes from Dr.L in the game? Maybe there could be a short doc with him having to enter this place, barely getting out alive. (Taking place before his possible death by getting caught by 106.)

Or that ^, and then i'm kinda out of ideas for what else could be done.

And nothing is a cliché if well executed, imo. Although the position of the notes should be in 860's chamber or nearby in my opinion, instead of inside, i don't think anybody with knowledge of 860 would take his/her time to write things in that place. *shudder*

How about a strange message left by somebody who got lost in 860 for a long time? Not everybody who went through 860 was attacked by the monster. I think that the monster first showed up because the monster or some other thing was angry about they way they were experimenting with 860. I like the idea of finding a page on a tree, nothing wrong with referencing another horror game.

The monster is 860-2, not Mr. Slendy...
