Re: MODEL REQUESTS: SCP-096 (the shy guy)

Hey Night, I'm glad your back and the models finished.. I built a placeholder 096 model in-game for AI bugtesting while we waited; I did a bit of animation work on him, basically I thought of him as a witch from Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2. Blitz3d does not allow for animation blending (as far as I know) so everything including a simple walk animation needs a idle-to-walk; Walk loop; walk-to-idle, etc. Anyhow, heres the animations I did:

1. Sitting idly breathing very softly, legs are in a V shape planted on the ground.
2. Getting up from sitting idly. (to arms at sides)
3. Walking slowly with arms crossed. (transition in-out is needed too.)
4. Walking slowly with arms at sides. (transition in-out is needed too.)
5. A transition animation from arms crossed - at sides.
6. A transition animation from arms at sides - to arms crossed.
7. Standing calmly idle (arms crossed)
8. Standingly calmly idle (arms at sides)
9. (when the player looks at his face while standing; arms at sides) His face comes up and stares directly at the player, mouth coming unhinged; then proceeds to claw/grab his face and flail his upper self in different directions while changing steps to maintain pose.
10. A loop animation of him panicking. (for the 1-2 minutes he does go crazy)
11. Transition out of loop panic animation and into an attack pose
12. A looping sprinting animation (I chose to outstretch his arms personally while he does this..).
13. An attack animation for when he catches the player.
14. (almost forgot this one) forcing a door open animation? Perhaps we can have him destroy the doors in the facility actually, like shattering them into pieces, etc..

I found it tough to get models into a .B3D format after exporting to .FBX from Blender; I used the free program fragMOTION and was able to import my armature skeleton rig and animation lists entirely and export to .b3d without any problems. (PM me for more info)

btw, what program do you use for modelling and are you a professional? :D

Thank you for the very informative comment Mircoaine. :D

I use Blender as well, I'm nowhere near professional I just started a couple of months ago (this model of 096 is one of my first models) and I don't have much knowledge on how powerful Blender is. This will actually be my first attempt with animating, so I guess I could use some help with the whole exporting and making process (the animating it self shouldn't be a problem though as I do have experience with animating sprites for games and so).
Some quick links for myself (and you all too).

Jeeze, well I started like 3 months ago; your skills throw mine out the window LOL. Animating was a definite pain, after searching a ton of youtube tutorials I found some that were related to animating and then exporting to .FBX for Unity; I kind've followed along and ran into a ton of pains.. automatic vertex weight rigging with the armatures shouldn't be a problem. Here a couple more eventful youtube tutorials that help explain animation for Blender models and making new animations, etc:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOmNchDRqJk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb152Qncn2s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYZkwbg2T2s

Things I learned the hard way:
Never select your model and assign the animations in the Dopesheet to it, it will make everything go crazy when replayed, always select the Armature rig and assign anims.
Always have the 'F' (force) icon ticked for every animation so it won't be deleted when you save and exit.

Exporting will be relatively easy towards the end, just a blender .FBX export out and an import into fragMOTION which can save all of Blenders animations/rig etc.

I know you've finished his model and all, but I'm hoping that you will still add some improvements later on in the year. I'll add some personal complaints. The bulges that connect the forearm to the rest of the arm look way too big. His head seems a bit too small in comparison to his torso. It may just be me but his feet seem a bit puffy and his lower legs don't thin down when meeting his ankle, they just look like tubes. His hands could be a bit scaled down and the back of his head ends up being a bit too sharp. And finally his feet are flat and look like flippers that people use to dive. xD
I am a boot.

Right yes. Natural yes. 3D modeling is simple. In a way, I compare it to Photoshop. Although I'm a novice in both of these, and can't produce anything near Night's quality, it is selection and manipulation. Recently I've actually done my first model; I really do NOT have the patience to follow things through. I get bored, and after 2 months, I stray off. With alot of things. Nights, keep working! Although, if it was not you that made the texture, why is the texture semi-transparent? Even after masking...

Have you even seen him in real life too know? I thought so, because if so you'd be dead or a very fast object would be rapidly speeding toward your neck...

[P.S.]
NIGHTs, don't do it bro. You get any better and you make another model.... Shy-Guy would go Leroy Jenkins.

Uh, what? I was just making some suggestions, not calling him out. Also SCP does not exist IRL.

Thanks, I'll look into these videos, and probably into others to solve my own problems in the way. :P

ThatGoodSir
I guess that depends on how quick I make the animations, hopefully soon.

Hoogalindo
I'll probably do some more tweaks and changes to the model while working on it.
Thank you for the suggestions, although few of the problems you mentioned might be because of the strong lighting source I'll still see what I can do. :)

Mrpeanut188
I did make the textures so I can assure you that they're not semi-transparent, it might seem like it because most of his skin is absolutely white.

No problem man. If you want I can provide some other suggestions in the future. Up to you.
