Reminds me of those Games that have FMVs play during a Cutscene with Pre-Rendered Graphics rather than Real Time Models. Possibly a 3D Program could be used to do such a thing then have it rendered as an .avi or more compressed format. Blender was used to make Short Movies, after all.
Yeah, the thing is that I don't really think the game could support an impressive monologue with dynamic lighting and close ups and realistic facial animation. Hopefully the pre-rendered animation wouldn't overshadow the contents of the game itself, that is.

Also, music: will there be a track playing during the dream scene? I certainly think it'd be a lot more impressive with one. Something similar to the stuff in the ambience thread, maybe a bit less threatening, and more calming. (it is a dream after all)
I might be able to hopefully come up with something. ;)

If this gets the go ahead. However, I wouldn't mind making it anyway.

I do think that the moving picture style cut scene may be easiest. It could be pretty stylized too.
^I second that.

[Sequence and game begins with D-9341 appearing in a park with SCP-990 on a bench facing towards water (like this :right: http://scp-wiki.wdfiles.com/local--files/scp-990/scp990 but without explosion in background)]

990: Take it in... peace. It's a luxury.

[SCP-990 turns to face D-9341]

990: You look afraid. Why? Don't be afraid, it's a beautiful day -- rather, night -- but it sure seems like day, doesn't it? I guess that's what dreams do. I would happen to know -- or I should, given the amount of time I spend in these things.

[Pause -- Background scene begins to gradually fade into white or black (TBD) over the course of the monologue]

990: You're quite the quiet one, aren't you?

[Short Pause]

990: Alright then, I'll tell you outright, in case my hints weren't enough. You're in a dream, this may be the last one you will ever have, for nightmares come ahead.

[Pause]

990: When you wake up, you will be taken. Taken to a place I know quite well, the Foundation. They say they will have everything under control. No reason not to believe them, they've done it for a very long time now. But, this time, when you go, things will go wrong.

[High-pitched tone starts to fade in]

990: You must stay alert, put survival first, and trust nobody.

[Pause]

990: If I were you, I wouldn't want to wake up. But, unfortunately, you must.

[High-pitched tone takes over and D-9341 wakes up to an MTF agent shaking him awake in a prison cell]

MTF: C'mon! Get up! Get up now!

[MTF notices D-9341 awake]

MTF: You're being relocated. Now! Let's go! We got 32 others waiting for you!

[Player controls D-9341through the prison to the outside and into a van]

[Van doors close and player wakes up in original intro]
I'd like make to some adjustments and additions on this one, seeing as how it's the best one imo so far.
What kind of adjustments do you mean?

Nothing drastic, just some minor rewording and such, I'll do it soon enough, when I have the time to concentrate for just a short while. Of course, all of that is subject to adjustments too, it's just a suggestion for improvement. It's still a great draft to work off of in the first place.
It slep time bunner.

I agree, the dream should occur AFTER D-9341 is relocated, it would make more sense, and it would flow better. I think what should happen is that an alarm in D-9341's cell will sound, perhaps with an accompanying red light on the side of the cell. I'd assume the Foundation would use stuff like that as opposed to personal alarm clocks, it seems very like them to have a terminal routed to all cells, all wired to functions like 'alert' and 'gas'.

This sound effect is the identical one I had in mind, it was actually used in HL2 once or twice I believe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWXLPu8Ky9k

I see... It would make more sense, if the intro would have a small addition how D-9341 got into the facility... But I still agree with the above idea.

Curiosity.

^ I don't think it matters how D-9341 got to the facility. The current intro explains everything perfectly well, and the van scene would just pointlessly lengthen it.

If 990 is ever added to the game, I vote that the game starts with a short dream sequence with him, and then goes straight to the regular intro as soon as D-9341 wakes up. Simple and straight to the point.

Yes, a lengthy intro really takes away from the mysterious mood a short intro would create perfectly. It would destroy any curiosity the player has and turn it into impatience. After all, why do horror/mystery movies often have abrupt and unexplained endings? (I know that's not exactly a great analogy smh)
