I just got a new computer, and it's windows 8. So in the game, when I try to bring up the command prompt (pressing F3) it adjusts the brightness instead of bringing the commands up. Is there any way I can change what button I press? (it wasn't in the options area either)

If it is changing the brightness instead of doing its "F-key function" per se its because the PC is set to do the action instead of the F-function. There should be a key next to cmd or ctrl that is labelled "fn" or something like that. Hold that and then press f3. That should fix it.

I have a laptop with win 8. Hold down shift while you press F3. It works every time.

It shouldn't be shift, it should be a FN key like spartan said.
