If you look at most of the 'theories' tied to the 2012 apocalypse crap, its mainly a bunch of apocalypse theories orginally placed on other dates which DIDN'T happen and were tied to 2012 in some hope to keep the theorizes of these things from looking like completely insane idiots.

I would never 100% discount it as a possibility though, humanity knows far too little about the universe to say for sure what will happen, if anything.
